Video Series: Graceland Cemetery – The Early Tours

September and October are wonderful months to visit Graceland, famous as the “architects’ cemetery.”
.

Continuing the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the docent program, Jeff Mercer and Sylvia Dubeck, co-directors of the Graceland tour, are joined by Barbara Lanctot and Henry Kuehn. Both Barbara and Henry are longtime Graceland docents and authors of books about the cemetery. Barbara, one of the docents who created the first Graceland tour, describes her experiences during the tour’s first weekend in 1975 when hundreds of people showed up to fill Graceland with tour-takers. Barbara, Henry, Sylvia and Jeff share stories of prominent Chicagoans and their graves in the beautiful naturalistic setting that makes Graceland one of the best-loved places in Chicago.
