The past month in Chicago truly bore out T.S. Eliot’s contention that “April is the cruelest month.” The one ray of sunshine was the smashing success of Volunteer Appreciation Night on April 11.
Fifty-five volunteers were treated to a fantastic evening of cocktails, compliments, and conversation. Our thanks go to Caroline Duda and Erin Carlisle for their heavy lifting in planning and hosting the event and to Lynn Osmond for joining the festivities to update us on plans for the new CAC.
Speaking of the CAC, news on VEV roles, training plans, shift scheduling updates, etc. will soon be coming your way. More than ever, we encourage you to be on the lookout for Caroline’s emails, to click on the links in Erin’s weekly Friday email updates, and to keep up with the FAQs About the Move on The Bridge as the information flow is about to become fast and furious.
This month’s quote comes from Yogi Berra (the T.S. Eliot of baseball): “If you don’t know where you’re going, you might end up someplace else.”
With Yogi as our inspiration, the Volunteer Steering Committee has mapped out its path for the next 18 months by drafting a statement of our goals as follows:
Purpose:
- To convey the interests of the VEVs to CAC as well as provide governance to, and communication with, the VEV community.
- To create exceptional Chicago Architecture Center experiences for VEVs and CAC visitors.
Objectives:
- To facilitate a smooth transition to new roles for VEVs in the CAC.
- To encourage communication and camaraderie within the VEV community.
- To raise awareness of the profile of VEVs within CAC and in the greater Chicagoland volunteer community.
- To partner with CAC staff in ensuring that VEV operating systems are working smoothly.
- To encourage and enable ongoing education about architecture and Chicago history for the VEV community.
As the Steering Committee collaborates to put some meat on the above strategy planning bones, we look forward to keeping all VEVs updated on our progress.
