The CAC re-opened Friday with a number of exciting changes to the exhibits. The crew at Columbian Model and Exhibit Works installed more than 30 new buildings on the Chicago Model, bringing it current with recent construction activity in the downtown area. And upstairs, four new scale model skyscrapers are on view in Building Tall, with another three joining the mix over the course of the summer. The new models on loan are: Helmut Jahn’s 1000M rising on South Michigan Ave, a huge eco-friendly affordable housing complex called Sendero Verde under development in New York City, the former world’s tallest building TAIPEI 101, and, last but not least, the futuristic King Power MahaNakhon tower in Bangkok, brainchild of architect Ole Scheeren (also lead designer of the CCTV Building–one of the show’s “icon” models). The three models still to come this summer include two groundbreaking Chicago projects in Solstice on the Park and NEMA Chicago, plus the supertall CTF Finance Centre in Tianjin, China, designed by the Chicago office of SOM. A little further down the road, expect to hear more about our upcoming affordable housing exhibit in the Chicago Gallery. Here’s additional information on the recent changes:
