Two Tours Seeking New Docents

A couple of recent docent retirements have created openings on two neighborhood tours. We are doing this off-schedule recruiting so they can maintain the minimum required number of docents and stay on the calendar for 2024. Each tour is looking for one or two people.

These are tours in two beautiful neighborhoods, Highland Park, and Beverly on Chicago’s south side. Please consider adding one of them to your repertoire, or suggest them to anyone you think might be interested. For members of the class of 2023, you can take advantage of this opportunity. You’ll be eligible to give a new tour next year (the season starts April 1) as long as you have completed all of your first-year requirements by the time the tour starts up.

Beverly is a hidden gem, a family-friendly neighborhood on the south side. Marketed as an upscale suburb in the late 1800’s, the community has wonderful examples of many different residential styles from Carpenter Gothic to Italian Renaissance, designed by architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin, and George Maher. Highland Park on the north shore boasts an equally fine array of buildings and styles. Are you a fan of Queen Anne? Frank Lloyd Wright & colleagues? Mid-Century Modern? This tour really does include something for just about everyone. It’s a shady walk to the lake and back, featuring a wealth of hidden treasures to share with tourees. Thanks for considering these opportunities and for helping to spread the word.
