Last week we asked you how well you knew the couples in the docent body. Here are the answers to our Trivia questions.
How well did you do? Remember, you don’t have to admit any score to anyone. However, if you know something we don’t – and it is likely you may – please send the information onward in the Comment section and we will add your information to ours for the permanent record. Here are the answers.
1 – Which couple acted as tour directors for the Historic Skyscrapers tour for close to a decade?
The Wibergs: Joyce and Don, the Magician, Wiberg, Class of 1996, toiled for years as the tour directors for the Historic tour, then the most popular in terms of touree attendance and one of the two tours learned by almost every class through the turn of the 21st century. Tour Topics ranged from “Making History: The Ladies of the Lakes,” (i.e. the Fountain of the Great Lakes at AIC); to “Dear Docent – Advice to the Tour-Lorn,” a column answering questions from docents such as “How do you describe Leiter II?” …” to general “Historic Tour Tips from Don and Joyce Wiberg.”
2 – How many couples currently give the River Cruise?
We think three, but you can let us know if we got it right or wrong. The three couples who today both give the River Cruise are:
Deborah Garber and John Tielsch
Lynne Hensel and Larry Kameya
Susan Robertson and Brent Hoffman
3 – How many couples met at CAF/CAC? Can you name them?
We really only know of two; most of the couples knew one another before they engaged with CAC. The two:
Lynn Osmond, CAC President and CEO met her husband, Chris Multhauf when he was proposed for membership on the Board of Trustees. He later took docent training and wrote the original and was TD for the Devil in the White City tour.
Susan Robertson and Brent Hoffmann, each of whom joined then-CAF when they retired, each from exciting world traveling careers. They hooked up for lots more travel together before they became engaged.
Norma Green and John William Corbett (1978) met in the Glessner House courtyard during a docent event at CAF headquarters and that’s where they held their wedding reception in 1982.
Jennifer Scheu and Doug Pollack, class of 1991 were married in 1993. They invited all their Docent friends to celebrate by taking a River Cruise.
4 – Who are these couples? Can you name them?
One docent staffer and one docent?
Lynn Osmond, CAC President and CEO, and Chris Multhauf most recently.
But in the CAF past, Jane Lucas, Class of 1974, became executive director of CAF. Her husband Bill Lucas was a docent.
One docent and one Exhibition Host?
Sabra Goldman, docent, TD of Union Station and Navy Pier tours, and Harvey Goldman, exhibit host.
Over time, there have been many docent and volunteer couples. Here is the list that the committee has compiled from information we have obtained. Many of their stories are told “in their own words” in The Bridge article today. Please let us know of any couples you might know of and we inadvertently skipped.
And, Happy Valentine’s Day to these couples – and all the couples out there who are comprised of one docent or volunteer and someone who has missed out on all our training, but we know, deep down, still loves architecture as we do.

Love it, and what a timely feature!
I’m curious: have we ever had related (other than by marriage) docents — sibling, parent-child, etc.? Does anyone know?
FYI – Dot Edison and Lisa Pickell are related – aunt and niece.
