CAF’s River Cruise is now an internationally-known attraction in Chicago. It draws local folks, visitors from across the U.S. as well as international tourists, celebrities, politicians, and even royalty. For the river docents, possibly the most important people to come on board are family members. Recently Joan Winstein’s (2012) cruise guests included Kip Thorne and his wife, Carolee Winstein, Joan’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law from Pasadena, California.
Kip Thorne’s name might sound familiar to you. In early October, Kip and two colleagues were named recipients of the Nobel Prize for physics. These three remarkable scientists detected gravitational waves that were generated 1.3 million years ago and reached Earth in 2015. No doubt Professor Thorne enjoyed the waves generated by our First Lady almost as much as he enjoyed his phone call from Sweden!
This story proves that — in addition to being the #1 river cruise — CAF’s tour-by-water is the overwhelming choice of Nobel Prize winners. Kudos to Joan and her family.
