Transitions and Milestones, June, 2023

With the loss of Mary Lou Cardwell, class of 1977,  in June, 2022, a big chunk of CAC’s Institutional history and knowledge has been lost. A public school and ESL teacher, Mary Lou’s “architectural beat” was primarily the Glessner House tour. She was Docent Council president in 1991-92; meetings were held in the Monadnock Building, where the Foundation was located at that time. Michael Weiland recalls the post-meeting dinners at Ranalli’s in the Fisher Building when Mary Lou’s order was predictably the same each month—chicken fingers! Remember Mary Lou when you, your kids, or grandchildren order this popular menu item.

Docent Council recently conferred emeritus status for Sabra Goldman, class of 2010. Sabra was tour director for the Union Station, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and Navy Pier tours. She was a DC rep and co-chair of the Tour Committee for four years. In addition, Sabra was active as District Coordinator for Open House Chicago for five years. Having given more than 30 tours a year for at least five years, Sabra’s walking shoes are worn out! What will she do next? Sabra, stay in touch!
