By Diane Wagner, Class of 2005
The cycle of life continues.
Docent Council was delighted to recognize Evelyn (Evie) Goltz’s attainment of Emeritus status. A member of the 1997 class, Evie was an active docent for 20 years. She was a frequent presenter for Open House Chicago as well as a regular sponsor and certifier for docents in training. Tours included Macy’s on State and Bike the Lakefront, along with a special emphasis on tours for kids. Evie was a contributor to the development of the Children’s Structure and Children’s Loop tours. She received a Service Award in 2000. Docent trips were a special pleasure for Evie—new learning and new friends—what could be better?
It is with enormous pleasure that Judith Kaufman reports the birth of her granddaughter Kiki. Little Cathryn Lasker Kaufman was born on February 27th, in New York. Judith comments: “Luckily we had our vaccine on time to fly to New York. My son Jon and his partner Erin are devoted Brooklyn parents. The dog ignores her.” I bet that dog will be won over pretty quickly!
And it is with sadness that we share the news of Bill Shapiro’s death on April 16, 2021. A member of the class of 2000, Bill was certified for a number of tours, among them Louis Sullivan, Synagogues by Bus, and the French language tour. But his favorites were tours about Mies—his beloved Farnsworth by Bus and Mies & Modernism. Bill was awarded the 2010 Neighborhood Tour Director for the Farnsworth tour. He also received Service Awards in 2005 and 2017. Following his retirement, Bill earned Emeritus status in 2018. A celebration of life service has been held. Condolences can be sent to his wife, Chantal, at 59 Knox Circle, Evanston, IL 60201.
May Bill’s name forever be for a blessing.
