The “Meet Your City” Campaign – What You Can Do

by Tom Carmichael & Bob Sutter

Great news. To date nearly 90 docents and volunteers have donated $63,000 to the “Meet Your City” campaign. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated. However, we have not quite met our goal – to raise $100,000 for naming rights to the kiosk for listening devices. We are hoping to achieve our goal before the end of December when the campaign ends. But our efforts are not really about naming rights for the kiosk. They are about the future of Chicago Architecture Center.

Our objective is for all docents and volunteers to participate in the campaign. A gift of $1,000 would be fabulous. $100 would be great. $25 says in a very tangible way that you see CAC’s future and want to be part of it.

Docents and volunteers are the engine that will keep CAC running. Our knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for architecture are the hallmarks of our organization. However, our time and energy by themselves are not enough. CAC is moving into new territory to become the center for architecture. Money is needed for:

  • Maintaining and supporting the center.
  • Developing new exhibits, programs and guest experiences.
  • Reaching out to new audiences to help them discover why design matters.

You give your time. Why should you give your money as well? The answer is that your money – the money of docents and volunteers – speaks more loudly than anyone else’s. When CAC approaches Chicago’s major donors, they want to know that the people who volunteer at CAC are supporting it with their own cash. Your financial contribution will send a strong, persuasive message to potential donors that you believe in the CAC mission.

Thank you for your support.
