CBOT: Diverse but Cohesive
Most Chicagoans are at least passingly familiar with 141 West Jackson, The Chicago Board of Trade. A 1930 Art Deco masterpiece from Holabird & Root, it anchors LaSalle Street and Chicago’s financial district under the watchful, though faceless gaze of Ceres, Goddess of Grains. However, many are unfamiliar with the 1982 Post Modern southerly addition by Murphy/Jahn, which honors the original building with its own distinct character. The accompanying photographs are a celebration of the diverse, but cohesive styles of both buildings.

Love the diverse views of the building, particularly the inside Ceres of the last photograph. I haven’t seen her in forever. Thanks, David.
Thanks for reminding me of the glory of the CBOT, David!
Just finished a CBOT tour so these pictures were a reminder of what I just saw. Great photos!
David, Thanks for letting us peek at the vault and safety deposit boxes as well as a swirling banister. My favorite is the sleek cocktail image on the elevator door. Well done! Suzy Ruder
