Orientation Area Etiquette – This Means You!

The busy summer tour season is producing a very crowded orientation area at CAC. So much is happening – visitors are milling about, looking for the gallery; guest services volunteers are distributing GTS devices; docents are gathering their tourees to begin their introductions. How can we maintain a calm and organized orientation area?

Docents – you must keep your introductions to no more than five minutes. With two groups going out for many tours, and additional tours often starting in 30 minutes, it is crucial to move out of the orientation area as soon as possible. And move your group away from the GTS desk for your orientation so the guest services folks can do their jobs.

Guest services volunteers – feel free to ask docents to move their groups if they are crowding the desk area.  You need to have enough room to perform your tasks.

And all of us – if you’re in the orientation area, make yourself useful. If you see someone who looks lost, ask if you can help. Direct them to the right area.  We can all pitch in to make our guests comfortable and minimize frustration.
