March News from the CAC

Well, March certainly came in like a lion; here’s hoping it leaves us with higher temps, just like a lamb. This is the last month of the 2018 schedule. The summer touring schedule opens April 1 and the move will finally be completed.

Still, there are a number of things you should be aware of this month at CAC:

  • If you have not yet used the new headsets and GTS equipment, please come early to get familiar with the new devices prior to going out on a tour. We are using the new devices because of the rules from the feds regarding band width. The new devices allow guests to wear a device that they only need to turn on and figure out volume level. Docents only need turn on their headsets and it all is ready to go. Those who have been using the new devices find the sound quality a good deal better than before and they are simple to operate. The headsets fit under earmuffs, too.
  • All tours/shifts are now in the VolunteerMatters. Sign ups for Neighborhood and Building tours can be done in conjunction with Tour Directors if you have already penciled in tours for the summer months.
  • Docent Appreciation Night: Nominations for annual special awards will be up on the Bridge. Please fill these out so we can honor those docents whose activities have been “above and beyond” this past year.
  • Everyone by now should have received their Member Magazine. Please note that tours are featured throughout, with special mention of the two newest tours upcoming this season: Magnificent Architecture of the Magnificent Mile and Art on the L. Also featured is this year selection of Limited Edition Bus Tours. You can sign up now for any or all of the nine bus tours.
  • Finally, if you haven’t already tried it, note that the Amazon Go store opposite CAC at 111 E. Wacker Dr., has opened for business. If nothing else, it is open on Sundays so we are no longer a food-free zone on the weekend.
