Greetings Docents, Education Guides, Exhbit Host and Guest Service Volunteers
As many of you are now aware, our new exhibit Loop as Lab: Reshaping Downtowns is officially open to the public! This is an exciting show for us, as we’re returning to the subject of downtown Chicago in the Skyscraper gallery after a few years exploring other topics, and this is a show that includes quite a bit more audience participation than previous exhibits. If that isn’t enough to get excited about, in the hopper are a slate of exhibit-associated public programs and a docent-led walking tour focused on the history of central area planning in the Loop, which launches in a couple weeks.
We’d like to offer some additional opportunities for the larger volunteer corps to learn about the exhibit. This will kick off with a Zoom “lunch and learn” next Wednesday, May 8th at noon, which we will record and make available via the Bridge. All volunteers are welcome, however the presentation will be most directed to the exhibit hosts and education guides, as they will be the ones most responsible for engaging guests on the gallery floor. Docents will likely want to become familiar with the show as well, as we’d like to encourage as many walking tour and river cruise guests to check out the show as possible.
In addition to the lunch and learn, we’re looking for a date in May to offer another round of curator-led gallery walks, and possibly some drop-in hours to ask the curatorial team any additional questions you have.
We hope you can tune in on the 8th and look forward to seeing you in the Skyscraper Gallery!
