In response to many requests, the Enrichment Committee is offering a docent-led tour for CAC volunteers only of the Austin neighborhood.
Explore the architectural gems of Austin, a former “railroad suburb” on Chicago’s West side. Annexed in 1899, Austin became the home of numerous immigrant communities and remains a hub for many grand residences built in the fashionable Queen Anne, Prairie, and Shingle styles. Visit Austin’s historic Midway Park and surrounding streets with their late 19th and early 20th century houses, schools and storefronts, with works by prominent local architects including Frederick Schock, William Drummond and Dwight Perkins.
The tour, which lasts about 2 hours, will be offered on Sunday, August 27 at 10:00am and Tuesday, August 29 at 9:00am.
Space is limited. Please fill out the registration form. The meeting place will be sent with your confirmation email.
