Back in January, CAC enabled a Multi-Factor Authentication for all computers/devices that access our systems. We held off the on the library computers but due to insurance reasons, we installed this software last night. The software we are using is called DUO. All CAC Staff are currently using this for their computers.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi Factor Authentication is a security measure used in addition to your account password(s) to help protect against outside parties with malicious intent. It’s very similar to security on your personal Social media and e-mail accounts such as Facebook, or G-Mail
MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION HAS BECOME A COMPLIANCE STANDARD AND REQUIREMENT DUE TO INCREASED SECURITY THREATS.
What to Expect, and how will this affect you?
There is a hardware key fob that will need users must push a token to get a 6-digit code to add to the computers after login. These tokens are very expensive and will need to be handled with extreme care!! If lost or damaged, the wait time for a token replacement is between 2 – 3 months!
How to use DUO
The software is very easy to use. Each library computer has its own key fob. They are tethered to the monitor. Please do not remove.
- Login to the computer as usual.
- A screen will pop-up prompting you to add the 6-digit code.
- To get the code, press the green button on the key fob and enter into the open field, check the Remember Me for the Day box and click Login.
You should be all set. If by chance you get a screen asking to activate offline access, just X out. Do not click Activate Now.
