Kudos – July 2017

Mari-Pat Boughner, 2004
Hello. The Group Sales Department got a call this week to compliment Mari-Pat Boughner on her River Cruise. This was a group of librarians in town for a conference, and they said it was their favorite part of the trip and that she left all the librarians laughing. Thank you, Mari-Pat! Bradlie Yanniello, CAF Group Sales Department

Barbara Breakstone, 2012
Our Wisconsin family and our French foreign exchange student took the CAF River Cruise. Our tour guide, Barbara, was fabulous. She had so many facts that I am sure that the boat could have gone around twice and she would not have had to repeat a thing. She oozed enthusiasm and passion. Interesting to listen to, she epitomized what a tour guide should be: someone who makes you feel like you want to learn all she knows on the subject because it is important. Great experience.

Dick Clark, 2008
We have taken many of the lake and river tours, but this is the best one. Our guide was Dick Clark and he was fabulous. He was friendly, knowledgeable and kept a nice pace. This is the tour I would take my friends on.

Emily Clott, 2012
We were in Chicago for a day and everyone we’d talked to recommended the CAF River Cruise. Our docent was a volunteer named Emily, who was informative and funny. It was a great introduction to the city, and we learned a lot about Chicago’s history and got to see some great architecture from a unique vantage point. I highly recommend spending a little bit more and going on the twilight tour–you will get to see the city start to light up, which was really beautiful.

Tom Drebenstedt, 1986
I wanted to let you know that Tom’s lecture about bungalows at the Des Plaines Public Library last month was great. Our patrons thought that Tom was professional, knowledgeable, and had a good sense of humor. Thank you!

Greg Dreyer, 2007
It’s only natural that with the outstanding architecture schools here in Chicago, the skyline would be peppered with architectural beauty. This was our first trip to Chicago and the River Cruise was the first thing we did! Volunteer docent Gregg was excellent. The information covered is much more detailed and unique from the other city tours, so you really learn about architecture with some history added. This tour is a must!

Georgia Goldberg, 2012
I live in the city and have taken at least three river tours with an architecture focus. I took a visiting friend on this tour a few says ago. The CAF River Cruise s one is far and away the best. The docents are well trained. Our docent, Georgia, was outstanding: knowledgeable, easy to be heard, and concerned about the visitors’ experience.

Audrey Henderson, 2009
Audrey was a fantastic Historic Skyscrapers tour guide! She really had insight into the buildings and was knowledgeable about Chicago architecture in general. This tour was definitely worth the time and money.

Lynn Hensel, 2010
Hi, Hallie – A member, Lisa Warshauer, took the Fulton-Randolph Market tour today (July 13) and had this to say about the docent, Lynn Hensel: “She was wonderful!” – William, CAF Sales and Service

Mary Jo Hoag, 2007
Mary Jo was a wonderful River Cruise guide. This is so much better than any commercial tour, so very highly recommended. Thank you, Mary Jo.

Brent Hoffmann, 2005
We took the River Cruise on a perfect Saturday. The tour guide, Brent, was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the architecture of the city. We got a full 90 minutes of insights and color commentary on hundreds of buildings along the river. Well worth the ticket price.

Bob Joynt, 2011
I had the privilege and pleasure of Bob Joynt’s experience, expertise, and wonderful sense of history on a Chicago River Cruise when I was in Chicago on July 6th. He is a marvelous goodwill ambassador for your organization, and I am grateful to have had such a memorable experience.
Respectfully, Sam Lehrman

Wayne Johnson, 2016
Took the River Cruise on a Sunday morning, What was most impressive was the tour guide, I believe his name is Wayne Johnson. He spoke about each architectural structure as if he built it himself, and was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city. I highly recommend this tour.

Kelly Jones, 2016
We took a wonderful River Cruise led by a knowledgeable and entertaining docent named Kelly. The tour took us through the heart of the city center with great views of all the fascinating Chicago architecture.

Judith Kaufman, 2010
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the River Cruise. Our volunteer guide, Judith, shared a wealth of information on not only the downtown architecture, but also Chicago’s history of industry and design. It was easy to find and a relaxing break from walking the Mag Mile. Highly recommend!

Sylvia Kete, 1998
Don’t miss out on this wonderful River Cruise Our guide, Sylvia Kete, was informative and entertaining. She was very current on her knowledge of the architecture along the water front and her passion was evident throughout the tour. Well worth booking!

Bill Lipsman. 2009
This was a great River Cruise for our family! Retired lawyer and docent Bill was so interesting and engaging. He was even able to keep the attention of our two boys (ages 12 and 13). This is a “must do” — you really get a sense of the lay-out and history of Chicago. So get a ticket, grab a beer, and enjoy the 90 minute tour. I highly recommend!

Pam Loewenstein, 2015
Excellent Treasures of Culture and Commerce tour accompanied by excellent docent. Pam did a great job!

Chuck McLaughlin, 2008
Attended a 4pm River Cruise in July 2017. Chuck was our docent. All future cruises will pale in comparison to this one I am afraid, as Chuck was a master storyteller and wealth of knowledge. He barely took a breath in the 90 minutes we were with him and even took time to quiet people who were distracting from his presentation.

Chris Montanari, 2012
The River Cruise is a must see if you are interested in how Chicago got to be Chicago. Chris was excellent tour guide and host. Had all of the dates, facts, figures, and stories at immediate recall. From the river, you get a perspective not available from street level. Well worth the price. Take plenty of pictures!

Angela Platt, 2013
Excellent! Our Historic Skyscrapers tour guide, Angela Platt, was wonderful. She had a lot of knowledge about all the buildings. We learned things about the different styles of architecture and she took us in the buildings and pointed out the interior details as well. I highly recommend this tour.

Howard Sachs. 2007
Howard Sachs did a wonderful job on the Historic Skyscrapers tour, explaining the various architecture types, their history, and significance. He was a wealth of knowledge that kept it very interesting. I learn a lot about the different architecture eras of Chicago and was very impressed.

Lindy Trigg, 2003
On our recent four day “tourist” excursion to Chicago, we visited the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry, Willis and Hancock Towers, Wrigley Field, Magnificent Mile, and the Field Museum. We enjoyed all of them very much but when our family voted on our favorite overall experience, the CAF River Cruise rose to the top. We had a great tour guide named Lindy – our trip was awesome thanks to Lindy. Add it to your Chicago tourist attraction list for sure.

Rebecca Trumbull, 2010
Excellent tour of Chicago architecture via the Chicago River. Our docent Becky was informative and clearly enjoyed her job. Outside or indoor seating and cash bar available – cool!

Michael Weiland, 1984
The River Cruise was one of the better architecture tours that I have taken. It was very well organized. Our guide Michael Weiland was excellent. He had extensive knowledge of the history of Chicago and architecture and had excellent discussion points. He was very entertaining and easily heard over the PA system. I highly recommend this tour.

Joan Winstein, 2012
Volunteer docent Joan W. did an amazing job encouraging us to interact with the buildings on our River Cruise, and to observe how the buildings interact with each other. She was clear, fun, enlightening and the time flew past. A life long Chicagoan, I saw the river and our city from a new view which I am still enjoying one month later when I walk around. Also fun to meet some nice tourists from other places! All around a great use of time. Thanks CAF and Joan!!
