Docent Council held an in person meeting at CAC on Tuesday, June 6. A copy of the official minutes with all the details will be posted on The Bridge next week. Here is a summary of the meeting.

Old Business  This included an update on the three strategic task forces being formed by Docent Council – Digital Growth, Defining the Docent Experience, and Improving Docent/Staff Interactions. Co-chairs and task force members have been recruited. All three task forces will meet in the next few weeks to establish mission statements and goals.

Tour Committee   Steve Redfield and Jessica Williams presented their extensive plan to streamline and improve tour schedule planning. Two working groups, one dealing with walking tours and the other dedicated to building tour attendance, were proposed. Docent Council approved the plan.

Standards Committee   Susan Pappas reported that the committee was unanimously recommending Emeritus status for longtime docent Sabra Goldman. Docent Council approved unanimously.

DAN Committee   DAN is next Thursday, June 15, 5-7 PM and co-chair Ellen Shubart encouraged everyone to attend this special docent evening. Please remember to check in when you arrive.

Class Update  Catherine Thomson reported that all the Treasures trainees have certified and have started giving tours. They are all now writing and certifying for their second tour – either Magnificent Mile or What’s New (?). River trainees continue to work towards certification.

New Business Tours are being categorized in a new way, reflecting how members pay for them.

Essential Tours. These leave from the Architecture Center (formerly known as Core tours) and are free to CAC members.

Premier tours. These were previously called Neighborhood or Building tours and do not leave from CAC. Members will pay for these tours unless they hold a Deco level ($300) membership or higher. “Walk-ups” will now pay for tickets, unless they are Deco level members.

Headsets. Some guests have problems using our red ear buds with hearing aids. Full headsets that cover the entire ear are available at the front desk. Docents should ask the box office staff for help if any guest is having difficulty with headsets.
