The Enrichment Committee is happy to announce that we have arranged two private tours for volunteers of the Chicago Architecture Center of the national historic landmark, Riverside. These 2 hour walking tours will be led by docents from the Olmsted Society, Riverside’s historic preservation organization and held on:
Sunday, June 11 at 10:30am
Wednesday, June 14 at 10:30am
Riverside was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of modern landscape, architectural practice. His design for Riverside stepped away from the common grid and instead features a design of curving streets and acres of parks.
Set against this backdrop, the works of many of the most renowned 19th century architects are featured including, Frank Lloyd Wright, William LeBaron Jenny and Louis Sullivan.
Our tour will include 2 hours walking through the first division of Olmsted‘s plan. After this concludes attendees can either depart for the day or stay for some refreshments (on their own) and continue with a shorter 60 minute walk lead by CAC docent and former Riverside resident, Gloria Hinrichs, to areas not covered,
including the world renowned Higgins Glass Studio. Their pieces are featured in many art museums and this is the only place you can purchase these coveted designs.
The CAC reduced cost for the tour is $15. You can register by CLICKING HERE. Note: to accommodate the Riverside docent and keep your cost low, CAC will pay for the tour in advance which means there will be no cancellations or refunds after June 8 for the June 11 tour and June 12 for the June 14 tour.
Each tour is limited to 15 participants. If both sell out we will arrange another outing later in the year.
Details on meeting place and directions/commuting options will be sent in confirmation email. For additional questions, email gl************@gm***.com.
