To begin with, what exactly is meant by Docent Emeritus status? This status is intended to honor retiring CAC docents who have contributed significantly above and beyond giving tours. Benefits? It allows them to continue as ex officio docent committee members and receive all docent publications. They also have free admission to DAN, a 20% store discount, and free CAC membership.
So how does a retiring docent qualify for Emeritus status? Jill Tanz, Ellen Shubart, Delta Greene, and Mary Jo Hoag made up a committee that worked diligently during this past December and January creating clear and objective criteria for those interested in attaining this status. They retained the original requirement that an individual must have served as a docent for at least 15 years if he/she is under 65 years of age or 10 years if over age 65. However, the committee then created a questionnaire/application with a new list of clearly defined criteria of docent service above and beyond minimal tour requirements. To qualify for Emeritus status, a docent must have served in at least three of the ways listed. Emeritus status then becomes automatic. Docent Council approved this new process at its February 5th meeting.
The committee did a great job of clarifying requirements and retiring docents should have a much clearer idea of whether they qualify for Emeritus status.
