Our last post featured resources on a few female architects in Chicago. If you attended Open House Chicago’s “My Neighborhood, My Story” program about the Riverwalk with Carol Ross Barney, you heard an anecdote about how women are expanding their presence in the field: When Ross Barney graduated architecture school decades ago, her class of 100 had only four women. Today, the architecture classes she teaches at IIT are half female.
Continuing to share information about women in the field, today we have assembled sources about female architects around the country and worldwide.
In breaking news, DeZeen magazine posted a story about this year’s Pritzker Prize winners, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, the Irish founders of Grafton Architects:
Bringing attention to young, rising stars, “Madame Architect” is a website and podcast that offer interviews with women in the field today “who advance the practice of architecture.”

Looking back in time, the website “Pioneering Women of American Architecture” offers “a collection of profiles of fifty women who have made important contributions to American architecture,” all born before 1940.

Speaking of history, a search for female architects at the National Trust for Historic Preservation yields 376 hits (!), providing a quick means to explore numerous historic buildings by women.
