Docent Appreciate Night is steadily approaching! Put this on your calendar: Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The location will be 111 E. Wacker Drive. Wait, isn’t that the address of CAC? It is indeed. We’ll have drinks, hors d‘oeuvres, awards, and a chance to catch up in person. Make plans now to have dinner afterward with your class or other docent friends.
Each year at Docent Appreciation Night, awards are presented to docents who have made significant contributions to the CAC and the docent organization. Nominations for these awards are made by YOU, their fellow docents.
It is time to submit those nominations. The deadline is next Friday, April 22.
The winners are determined based on your nominations by a panel of recent award winners. To submit nominations, click here: DAN Nomination Form.
Following is a description of the awards and the recent recipients. It has always been an unstated policy that service awards are not given to a docent two years in a row or for two awards the same year. A complete list of recent award winners is posted here: DAN Awards-Recipients
Service awards (5 – 7 awarded)
Criteria: special contributions to CAC and the docent organization in the last year. May be awarded for a particular project or multiple areas of service, including service on council and committees, committee chair, tour director, sponsor/certifier.
May be awarded to a docent more than once for different contributions.
Last year’s recipients: Gloria Hinrichs-Nelson, Ross Wirth, Wayne Johnson, Leanne Star, Lynne Hensel and Larry Kameya
Neighborhood Tour Director Award (1 award per year)
This award was established to recognize neighborhood tour directors for work that might not be known to the entire docent body.
A neighborhood tour is one in which the tour director schedules the dates of the tours and schedules docents. Tours included would be neighborhoods, cemeteries, and building tours.
Criteria: recruits and trains new docents, keeps docents updated on new material, promotes the tour, stays in touch with docents, establishes relationships with partner organizations.
2019 recipient (we did not give out this award in 2020): Nancy Sims and Anne Shillinglaw for Sheffield.
Outstanding Achievement Award (1 award per year)
This award recognizes continued outstanding achievement and service by a docent over many years. Usually given to a docent for at least 10 years of service in multiple areas listed above in Service Awards. Often the recipient has already been recognized with one or more service awards. May be awarded to a docent only once.
