The historic Chicago Hilton and Towers, which has hosted not only Queen Elizabeth but every US president since Calvin Coolidge, was the setting for DAN 2018. On Thursday, April 19, docents and guests met, mingled and dined in style in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom, the perfect spot to honor docents for their contributions during the past year. The theme, Movin’ on Up, highlighted our upcoming move to 111 East Wacker and the new Chicago Architecture Center.
The awards were the event’s stand-out attraction. The honorees were:
Outstanding Docent Achievement: Dick Clark
Docent Service, which this year honored the directors of the core tours affected by The Move: Barry Bruckner, Tom Carmichael, Nancy Carter, Barbara Clark, Leslie Clark Lewis, Bill Coffin, Ed McDevitt, Deb Garber, David Gottlieb, Fawn Gottlieb, Siobhan Hartsell, Susan Jacobson, Rick Keal, Jack Kremers, Mike McMains, Paul Meyers, Susan Pappas, Bobbi Pinkert, Monica Rodriguez, Bill Shapiro, Dan Silverstein, Jill Tanz, and Lisa Voigt.
Neighborhood Tour Director: Lorie Westerman, for the Pedway Tours
Special Recognition: Hallie Rosen, for her work supporting docents during her tenure at CAF
One Team: Susan Pappas, for outstanding work in helping staff accomplish goals and exemplifying CAF’s core values
Myra N. Gary Award for Excellence in Tour Development: Ellen Shubart, for Riverwalk West
Above and Beyond – Just in Time (answering help wanted requests): Kyle Adams, John Burns, Pris Mims, and Joan Winstein
Above and Beyond – Tops in Tours (more than 300 tour hours): Kathleen Carpenter, Delta Greene, Judith Kaufman, Tom Kinsella, Cindy Schneider, Ellen Shubart, Roy Slowinski, and Jeff Zurlinden.
Also recognized were Milestone Docents (10, 15, 20, 25, 35 and 40 years!), Emeritus Docents, Project Fresh members, and the Move Task Force. And, of course, the raffle was a big hit, with prizes ranging from restaurant meals to hotel stays.
