Core Values ShoutOuts – February 2020

Deb Garber, Class of 2012 – Respect and Integrity
Deb was the Tour Committee mentor for the new core tour What’s New! As mentor, she walked the route and wrote a piece of the manual. We are grateful for her assistance! – Mary Jo Hoag

Michelle Woods, Class of 2019 – Integrity
A few weeks ago in the WORST weather, Michelle showed up not once but twice–yes a doubleheader to lead two different tours. Bravo, Michelle – Suzy Ruder

Donna Gabanski, Class of 1994 – Collaboration and Continued Learning
Donna heads up a committee tasked with making sure the Docent Training program is up to date and challenging for new docent trainees. She manages this by collaborating with a group of Education Committee colleagues, keeping track of progress, and finding docents who will contribute to the best pedagogy. She continues to learn by searching out new readings to review and consider for incorporation into the training program. – Dave Utech

Michele Kuhn, CAC Staff – Collaboration
Michele helped to get the new docent class up and running by being incredibly helpful and efficient. She quickly responded to requests, got the trainee website up and running, organized all of the readings, and more. – Lisa Voigt

Jean Schlinkmann, Class of 2013 and Core Values team – Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, and Continued Learning
Shoutout is off to a terrific start. Linking kudos to the core values is a wonderful way to reinforce CAC values. – Michael Cohen

Michele Kuhn, CAC Staff – Respect and Collaboration
Michele took the extra step(s) to get some copies made for a meeting.. The best part about Michele is that she exudes RESPECT and never makes us feel like we’re annoying her with all of the big and small problems we bring to her for help. – Joan Johns

Angela Platt, Class of 2013 – Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, and Continued Learning
Angela was my certifier and recertifier for Historic Treasures. While I haven’t spent a lot of time with her, of all my interactions across the range of CAC folks, I would say she most embodies the Core Values. In my certification, she worked very collaboratively with me to improve my understanding what makes a great tour. She challenged me to simplify my language to improve relevance to the greatest number of folks. She showed great respect when challenging my approach to a subject. In my recertification, she brought forward our certification experiences and recognized my efforts across the range of my Docent experience. I am proud to shout out ANGELA PLATT! – Brian Kelly

Erica Myles, Class of 2019 – Collaboration
Thank you so much to Erica for swapping tours with me when I had a conflict for the tour I’d booked. – Ross Wirth

Michelle Woods, Class of 2019 – Collaboration
Huge thanks to Michelle for giving me one of her Historic Treasures tours when I was unable to get one! #BovineCulture – Ross Wirth

My deepest thanks to Burt for an amazing “Cows on Parade” gift! I’m humbled and honored to be a part of the Bovine Herd! #BovineCulture – Ross Wirth

Michele Kuhn, CAC Staff – Collaboration
Kudos to Michele organizing the Feedback trainings for 2020 sponsors, certifiers, readers, coaches and peer reviewers. Michele organized 5 trainings with little lead time demonstrating resiliency and being cool under pressure facing unexpected twists and turns coordinating venues, timing, and attendees’ availability. – Michael Cohen

Lorie Westerman, Class of 2006, Guest Services – Collaboration
I was in the middle of editing the Historic Treasures manual and needed to include a section on how to revise the route during bad weather. . On a moment’s notice Lorie gave up her Sunday to come downtown and help me find a path through the Pedway that we might use. And she helped with the write-up! (Those pedway routes can be tricky.) Talk about going above and beyond. Thank you, Lorie. – Leslie Clark Lewis

Wayne Johnson, Class of 2016 – Collaboration
I was trying to create a video for my son’s 50 Birthday, and then send it to Brooklyn. My frustration of technical occurrences was so severe I seriously considered tossing the lap top out the window. I email screamed HELP to Wayne. And what a great help! Video resides somewhere in space for access in Brooklyn. Thank you Wayne. – Judith Kaufman

Michael Weiland, Class of 1984 – Collaboration
After typing up the minutes for Docent Council I send them to Michael. He is an amazing proof reader! Thank you Michael – Judith Kaufman

Steve Redfield, Class of 2019 – Continued Learning
Steve has always exemplified the continued learning core value. Everything from creating a custom google map highlighting buildings with lesser known architects to reading books about Chicago zoning. Steve encourages us all to be excellent in our tour content. – Amanda Lewis

Brian Kelly, Class of 2019 – Collaboration and Continued Learning
Brian is someone you can rely on for interesting architectural articles. He is constantly sharing the latest news. It helps build community and knowledge. – Amanda Lewis
