Call for Docent Council Candidates

Calling all docents who are interested in serving CAC beyond giving tours! This November, the docent body will elect its representatives to the Docent Council. The Election Committee is seeking qualified, interested and eager docents who would like to serve. In other words, “We want you!!!”

The DC consists of 12 docent representatives, a docent-at-large, and docent candidate reps from training classes.  The council’s purpose is to convey the interests of the docents to the CAC Board of Trustees and staff and to provide governance for the docent body. The docent-at-large represents CAC docents as a voting, ex-officio member of the CAC Board of Trustees and is a voting member of DC.

This year, six slots are open with three current docent council members running.  Each docent rep serves for two years; the docent-at-large serves for one year. Docent Council representatives cannot serve for more than 3 consecutive terms.

An active docent is eligible for re-election after two years of non-membership on the docent council (DC). The term of office begins at the January 2025 DC meeting. While the full scope of a DC rep is in the Articles of Operation, available on The Bridge, here is a summary for those docents interested in nomination:

  1. Currently the DC meets the first Tuesday of the month from 6-7:30 p.m. Generally, meetings are held at the CAC though we have a hybrid option for those who cannot attend in person.  You are expected to attend these monthly meetings.
  2. Regular members of DC are expected to join one standing committee, with one monthly meeting. The choice is theirs to make, with the idea that they will help the committee and provide feedback to the Council. If a nominee or newly elected docent already serves on a standing committee, he/she may remain on that committee.
  3. The time commitment for a DC member who is serving on DC and one committee should average between 6 to 8 hours per month.
  4. Docent-at-large representatives would add an additional quarterly meeting of the Board of Trustees and an unknown, but usually small, number of Board committee meetings.

If you would like to run for Docent Council and/or if you have questions about running, please contact Ed McDevitt,  Chair of the Election Nominating Committee, at mc*********@gm***.com

The deadline for submitting nominations is Aug. 30.
