CAC’s Longest-Serving Docents Honored

by Ellen Shubart, class of 2006

CAC docents who have led tours for more than 25 years – and, in one case, 45 years – celebrated their service with a lunch with CAC CEO Eleanor Gorski on Sept. 11. The luncheon, designed as a “perk” award for docents by the 2023 DAN Committee, took a while to schedule. According to those who attended, it was well worth the wait.

Docents Karen Genelley, Class of 1978; Kevin Griebenow, Class of 1993; and Robin Simon, Class of 1997 joined Gorski and staffers Monica Wilczak and Adam Rubin to honor their long-term service to CAC. (Docents Jerry Balin, Class of 1983 and Tina Strauss, Class of 1989, also were invited as some of the longest-serving docents, but were unable to attend.)

Conversations about CAC’s back history abounded, with tales of bus tours aboard yellow school buses, tours on Segways, and a tour for the visually impaired using 3D models.

The 2023 DAN committee hopes that this special recognition of service to CAC will become a tradition.
