Monday, April 29th at 2pm – CAC Lecture Hall at 111 E. Wacker Drive
We apologize for cancelling the original post of this event and for now reposting it. The dates of Mr. Baker’s scheduled trip to Dubai have changed and he’ll be back in the US for our 4/29 talk. Those of you who previously signed up will not need to do so again. You’re still on the Eventbrite list. And yes, you may bring guests since we have enough seats for 100 people – just be sure to sign them up on Eventbrite.
Docents, Volunteers and Guests,
Please join us at the CAC Lecture Hall for a talk by Bill Baker, renowned structural engineering partner at SOM, who has lead the practice for over 20 years and has overseen the engineering for many projects, two of which we know well – the Burj Khalifa and Frank Gehry’s BP bridge linking Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park. Most recently, he has had a Visiting Fellowship at King’s College in Cambridge, England.
We’ll hear about a number of topics including new trends in architecture, the impact of climate change on architecture, new structural elements, the advent of tall, thin structures requiring dampers, and more. And after his presentation, we’ll have a Q&A.
