Midcentury modern design is still as present and popular as it was when it first appeared on the scene. By taking this virtual tour of Midland, Michigan, you’ll learn about the impact of Alden B. Dow on modernist design with breathtaking examples from his home and studio.
Never heard of architect Alden B. Dow? That’s not surprising. None of his designs are in Chicago or anywhere in Illinois. Yet, he started designing modernist homes in the early 1930s before Mies van der Rohe came to the U.S. Dow was influenced by his apprenticeship with Frank Lloyd Wright and just as Frank Lloyd Wright did, Dow’s Home and Studio expressed his design ideas. This presentation will showcase some of Dow’s residences in Midland, Michigan.
The presentation will be lead by our own Maurice Champagne. It will be conducted over Zoom on Februrary 14th at 12:00 pm. The link for sign up is here: https://www.architecture.org/programs-events/detail/a-mecca-of-midcentury-modernism-alden-b-dow-residential-designs-in-midland-michigan/
