Many long-time docents will remember Charniece Polk. For years, she was the amiable, faithful, and competent tour scheduler at CAF when we were at 224 S Michigan Avenue. Before we were able to computerize sign-ups for our preferred tour times, we had to fill out forms on paper and give them to Charniece for sorting out, assigning slots, and notifying us (or something complicated like that)–all by hand. She sat just inside the door leading from the Santa Fe (Railway Exchange) Building’s atrium to the CAF offices and docent library.
We were sorry to see her go when she moved on to other opportunities. Her aunt is a week-end concierge in my building, noticed my CAC “uniform” shirt and made the connection. Charniece worked for McKesson, a huge medical supply firm in the Chicago area and now is in a higher supervisory position with McKesson in Memphis. She claims to remember me and sends greetings to all.

Fun to hear the update on Charniece. I often think about how hard that job was with paper and pencil.

Charniece’s smile always made my day, and I see she’s still smiling! Thanks for the reminder and update.
Thanks for posting this. I’m glad to hear that Charniece is doing well.
Charniece did a million other things around CAF beyond scheduling. Always with a smile and a calming voice no matter how crazy things got. So happy to hear she’s doing well!
Thanks, Rebecca!
Thanks for the update on Charniece!

Great to hear about Charniece, an all time favorite at CAF!
Thanks, Rebecca. Charniece was one of the nicest and most competent persons I have ever worked with. Best wishes to her for a wonderful future.
So nice to hear this update about a terrific helper to our docent body. When I began, Nelson was the coordinator, and he had piles of paper requests for tour slots that he would organize according to date received, dire need for a certain docent to give a particular tour, possibility for a docent to give two tours on a certain date, etc,, etc, etc. I think Charniece helped us move out of the dark ages into computerized scheduling. Always a happy face at CAC.
