Hello Docents and Volunteers,
Due to the very poor Air Quality in Chicago at the moment and projected into at least one more day it has become apparent that we need an Air Quality Cancellation Policy for Walking tours. We already have similar policies related to excessive heat or extreme cold. They all function in the same way:
- Criteria is set for cancellation
- Weather report for tomorrow is checked at 5pm the previous day and if criteria is met, cancellation procedures begin, which include notifying all staff, volunteers, and guests effected.
The criteria for the Air Quality Cancellation Policy for Walking Tours will be an Air Quality Index (AQI) rating of Very Unhealthy. This is an AQI score of 201 – 300. There will be no cancellations to the river cruise schedule at this time.
With this new policy, walking tours have been cancelled on Thursday, June 29th. Effected docents were notified on Wednesday, June 28th by 5:15pm.
With the cancellation of walking tours, this means no Guest Service Volunteers are required. However, the center will still remain open, so Exhibit Hosts are still welcome to join.
