CAF will not offer outdoor walking or elevated tours on those days in which the high temperature is forecast to be five degrees Fahrenheit or below. (This is the actual temperature, not wind chill.) This policy has been adopted both in consideration for the well-being of our docents and to ensure a positive tour experience for our guests who are often unprepared for just how cold Chicago can be!
Staff will decide whether to cancel tours by 7 pm the previous day, and all docents affected by this decision will be notified. Docents will receive credit for any cancelled tour. This policy applies only to outdoor walking tours and elevated tours. Bus/trolley tours, building tours and the Pedway tours will go on as scheduled.
Notice of tour cancellation will be posted on the CAF website.
Groups that have bookings which should be cancelled in accordance with this policy will be contacted by CAF staff as soon as possible after the tour cancellation decision has been made. CAF will try and re-schedule a tour for the group at a mutually acceptable time. If no re-schedule is possible, the group will receive a full refund.
CAF will not cancel tours due to snow, unless the city is shut down. Docents who commute to CAF from a distance may want to maintain a ‘snow list’ of colleagues who could be last minute substitutes on their tour should snow conditions make travel difficult.
