Greetings, fellow volunteers,
The holiday season is in full swing, including the CAF shop and out on the streets of our beautiful city.
As 2016 is winding down and our thoughts turn to 2017, some of you may be reflecting on the hours and shifts you have given in the spirit of volunteerism to CAF. Tours may come and go, the layout of the shop may change occasionally, but one constant is the outstanding volunteers who devote their time, day in and day out.
Hopefully everyone has recorded enough hours to continue on as a volunteer into 2017 and beyond. However, if you find yourself needing to add few hours, there are frequently shifts available. As the holiday season progresses and families travel, the shop is oftentimes very busy. Also, when schools are closed for a holiday break the Design Studio sees more children of all ages wanting to build with Legos.
If you haven’t taken advantage of the opportunity to cross-train between various volunteer roles, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. One day the tour desk in the shop may be extraordinarily busy, while another day many visitors can have many questions out in the atrium while looking at the model. The ability to fill in wherever there is a need is incredibly useful. There will be another Volunteer Training session scheduled in the beginning of 2017, so keep an out for that information. Meanwhile, if the area where you are scheduled to volunteer is quiet, feel free to help out in another area that is seeing more traffic.
This is also the time of year when we see more of our friends than usual. If you know anyone who you think might be a good fit to volunteer at CAF, encourage them to apply!
Finally, let me leave you with this thought: nominations for the Volunteer Steering Committee are being collected. Any volunteer who wants to get more involved is always welcome to attend our monthly Steering Committee meetings—it’s a very fun group!
Looking forward to seeing you in the shop, the atrium, and the Design Studio!
Sincerely,
Ellen Oberhart
