View from the Bridge

By Emily Clott

The Bridge is a weekly newsletter for docents and volunteers. In addition to timely notices from CAC, the volunteer community offers articles. These include hot topics in architecture, tour anecdotes, profiles of docents, volunteers, and staff, travel reports, and much more. We need and encourage contributors! That said, what are the parameters for contributions?

Here are the guidelines:

  1. Stories should be of interest to the broadest of the CAC community.
  2. The word count can range between 700 and 1000 words. Our new research into online publications shows that this is a widely accepted word count. Keep in mind while writing that, as in architecture, less is often more.
  3. Pictures are welcome, but please submit them separately. Indicate “Insert photo here” in the copy of your story so it’s clear where you intend it to appear.
  4. Send your copy to the managing editor who logs the story into the editorial calendar.
  5. All copy is edited; significant changes are sent to the author for review.
  6. The Communications Committee will determine whether and when to post a piece; we strive for a balanced menu in keeping with the varied interests of our readers.

The current Communications Committee includes Managing Editor Emily Clott, Art Director Leslie Clark Lewis, Marketing Director Ellen Shubart, and Copy Editor Diane Wagner, contributing members Cynthia Bates, Jill Carlson, Lisa Ciota, Brent Hoffman, Betsy Jenkins, Amanda Lewis, and staff liaisons Caroline Duda and Lexie Oliva. Please contact any of us with questions or concerns.
