One last dive into the archives for Black History Month unearths a beautiful two-part article by Mary Jo Hoag, class of 2007, about a specific architect and academic, David Sharpe. The articles were posted in 2018 and were the result of interviews with this compelling man. His life leaves a legacy in many way
Mary Jo adds: Architect David Sharpe recently passed away. His niece Kim, who introduced me to David, shared this news. Kim spoke at his funeral, using the information from this article to help compose her eulogy. She reported that friends and family were amazed by the stories they had never heard about David. Without these interviews, Kim noted, David’s stories would have been lost. Needless to say, that was gratifying for me to know. Certainly it was an honor to have interviewed David. It is so important to record these histories!

Wonderful to read of David Sharpe’s history and accomplishments. I loved being reminded of the importance of asking others about their lives….one honors them through that experience and enlightens others. Nice touch to become aware of the impact of the interview for his obituary. Very well done, Mary Jo.
