Looking Ahead at an Enriching 2022!
.
Watch the Bridge in coming weeks for more finalized date and registration details. And please, if any of you have dreamed of a particular kind of enriching activity during these long Covid restricted months, please email them to gl************@gm***.com .
Return of The Book Club
- We received great suggestions for reading material for 2022 and are finalizing selections for our March and April books, which will be announced in next week’s Bridge.
- This year, we will also be including (upon request) works of literature centered in Chicago in addition to books on architectural history and architects.
- We are keeping the club virtual but we will be scheduling a Book Club Alumni Wine Tasting event, to celebrate what we’ve read/learned and to enjoy that “other” traditional part of Book Clubs we’ve missed out on!
Return of Looking Local Tours
- So many of us are so busy giving tours and hosting, that we aren’t able to go on some of the more rarely given tour gems. Tours will resume in April and a featured tour will be offered at several days/times each month at no cost to docents.
Return of Building Tours
In coordination with Hallie/programming, we are working on tours of the following:
- West Loop – 345 N. Morgan, info on 601 West Monroe Towers
- Harley Clark Mansion/Artists Book House
- Chicago Harbor Lock
- Tribune Tower Residences
- Hyatt Hotel/Old Cook County Hospital
- Ignatius
- Auditorium Theater
- Other buildings you want to explore? Email gl************@gm***.com
NEW Outings and Events
- May – Frederick Law Olmsted 200th Birthday Celebratory Outing
- With the occasion of his 200th birthday on April 26, we will provide a fun outing to Riverside, including a presentation on his plan for the suburb, and narrated tour through the winding streets to view the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, William LeBaron Jenny, Calvert Vaux, et. al.
- Evenings with Gehry and the Symphony
- This summer, Enrichment will be staking out real estate on the lawn at the Pritzker Pavilion on select evenings during the Grant Park Music Festival. Bring a dish and bottle to share and prepare to play Architecture Trivia for prizes!
- Weekend Architreks
- The uncertain travel picture precludes us from planning a longer trip due to advance non-refundable financial commitments, but we can take shorter journeys!
- A weekend with Frank Lloyd Wright
- We’ll travel to Madison and then on to Taliesin to view Frank Lloyd masterpieces
- Rediscovering Columbus
- We’ll explore Columbus, Indiana and its rich architectural history, then take a slight detour on the way home for pastoral views of the covered bridges of Brown County.
AND THERE WILL BE MORE!
- Many other ideas/events are in the planning stages. If all of this sounds like a fun way to get more involved with others at CAC, please join us on the Enrichment Committee. Docents and Volunteers are invited! Please contact gloriahinrichs@gmail for more information and to share your ideas
Wonderful ideas! Has there ever been a docent trip to Farnsworth House?
Great project. I would love to get back into Inland Steel and the Fine Arts building.
Can’t wait to join docents at Grant Park for some summer music concerts: wonderful idea !
Lots of great opportunities planned! I’m a little ashamed to say, in this forum in particular, that I have not yet been to Taliesen and look forward to that trip. FYI – Some of us (including me) used to lead CAF’s Auditorium Building tour. I’d be happy to be involved in that one.
A trip to Kokomo IN to visit the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company. I think this could be a day trip from CAC.
