Dear Docent Family,
Happy New Year! I cannot believe that I’m entering my sixth year on Docent Council and my 3rd year as Docent Council President. This will be my last year on the council as we are limited to three consecutive 2-year terms. My how time flies.
The new year is the time to look forward. We all hope that 2022 will look more like 2019, even though it seems COVID will be with us for the foreseeable future. And we anticipate that the variants will be weak and the vaccine remain strong. With luck we will return to a full schedule once April, and the start of tour season, rolls around. We anticipate that our normal rules will apply for this year, that is each of us gives a minimum of 10 tours and at least one of each certified tour. Be looking for information on refreshers for tours that have not been given for a while. As always, we will adjust if the COVID situation worsens.
And the new year brings new Docent Council members. We are excited to have Cynthia Karabush, Erica Myles and Lisa Pickell join the council. I know they will bring new and fresh perspectives to our discussions. Also, welcome to Kathleen Carpenter, our new docent-at-large. Though it may be the worst title in the organization, it is an important position! The D-at-L is an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees (along with the DC president) and both ensure that the docent voice is heard at the highest level in the organization.
I want to take a moment to thank members of the 2021 council who are not continuing into 2022. Emily Clott, Carol Garner, and Judith Kaufmann gave significant time to help govern our docent group. They have been valuable voices in our organization, and though they are no longer on council, I know they will continue to lend their voices and helping hands.
Finally, my hope is that 2022 is a magical year for CAC. It is my third, and final, year as docent council president. And whenever I think of the number “3”, I think of “Schoolhouse Rock.” Like I said in last month’s letter, I am a child of the late-60s early 1970s. I watched Saturday morning cartoons and learned about the world through song (let us not dwell on my central Indiana formal education). So I’m sharing the link below, which will take you to the song, “Three, It’s a Magic Number!” I am so hoping my third year as docent council president is magical for the CAC and all of us docents.

Kent, appreciate your straightforward and folksy approach to your letters. Perhaps you learned more from central Indiana than you realize! To outgoing DC members, Bravo! Take a rest! Newcomers, giddy up! I believe you are in good hands during Kent’s magical 3.
