Transitions & Milestones, January 2022 – Farewells

By Diane Wagner, Class of 2005

Tom Kinsella, docent class of 2006, died in December. Those who knew Tom will feel the gaping hole of his loss.

And who didn’t know Tom? CAC seemed his second home. Entering the library, you would likely find Tom holding court in his signature cap, having just come in from a tour, or waiting to meet his next tour group. Lively and energetic, nothing was too much for his Energizer Bunny personality. Need a substitute? Call Tom, as he was certified for more than 20 tours! Not surprisingly he won the Worker Bee award for leading the most tours in 2013 (192) and 2014 (220).

Beyond CAC, Tom enjoyed classical music, singing in his church choir, jogging, and cooking. Our community will miss his vibrant energy.

David and Fawn Gottlieb, class of 2011, have taken “early retirement” from CAC. Of course it’s grandchildren who have lured them to Virginia. This dynamic duo won service awards in 2017. Fawn was the co-director of both Art Deco tours while David was co-director of the Architecture of the Magnificent Mile tour. In addition David developed the Food and Architecture tour with plenty of support and feedback from Fawn. Your CAC community will miss your steady presence, and we’re grateful for your 10 years of service. Let us know what and how you’re doing in your new home!
