The New Online Library Catalog is Here

The Library Committee is delighted to announce that the catalog of books in the Barry Sears Library is now available online.

The catalog can be accessed from any electronic device, making it easy to browse through the collection or search for a specific title or author.

Materials are divided into three “Libraries”: The “Barry Sears Library” includes all of the circulating books; the “Link Library” has the digital resources that we compiled in 2020 and 2021; and the “Reference Library” covers books that can only be used on site.

To access the catalog, use the new Quick Link named “Library” on The Bridge, or go to caclibrary.libib.com. The patron login is: 01966 and the password is: docent. CLICK HERE to find an instruction sheet. You can also find it under “Files & Documents” section: All Volunteers > Library Resources > “Online Library Catalog Instructions”.

Future improvement projects include tagging resources (adding searchable labels) to enhance search results, and enabling online circulation. For now, continue to check books out using the manual process. (Print your name and date you took the book on the card in the front pocket; then place the card in the black card file on the cabinet. Books can be borrowed for three weeks.)

If you need additional assistance, have questions, or want to provide feedback, feel free to contact Steve Redfield at st**************@gm***.com.

Thanks to the Library Committee members who have all worked diligently to get us to this point: Leigh Gates, Kathy Krepps, Ed McDevitt, Bobbi Pinkert and Mark Purdome, with special acknowledgement to Mark who used his expertise to vet and design the system, and to prepare the video and instructions.

We hope that everyone will try the link and browse the collection. As we were entering items, we were reminded what a remarkable collection we have, with materials ranging from historic monographs about Chicago architects to catalogs of old Art Institute exhibits. We’re confident that this new tool will make these materials more accessible for all of our research and exploration.
