First, let me thank you for working so diligently with Caroline and Jen to get added departures for neighborhood tours as well as just showing up as often as your comfort level allows. If you didn’t already know – you are popular! Members and visitors alike are often asking for more walking tours than we can provide.
But as you are also aware, our day-to-day existence is a constantly moving target these days. For a wide variety of reasons, we have had to schedule and then cancel OR reduce capacity on a large number of walking tours, mostly in the neighborhood tour group. This affects our members disproportionally, and many are getting quite frustrated. To alleviate their frustration and provide better member support, we will be implementing a temporary change in the neighborhood tours we list on the CAC website:
Beginning in September, we will post for ticketing only the confirmed neighborhood walking tours for the following four weeks. Docents will still be able to sign up for neighborhood tours in subsequent months via VolunteerMatters – these tours just won’t show up on the CAC website yet. The goal here is to stop taking bookings so far in advance that circumstances could force the tour cancellation. We have updated language on our website here to inform our guests.
What’s NOT changing:
- Any tickets already sold further into the future are totally valid. Hopefully we will not have many tour cancellations.
- Any tour listed on VolunteerMatters is still planned to depart. Just because you do not see your tour departure date on the CAC website does NOT mean your tour was cancelled.
- Caroline and Jen will continue to reach out to docents and/or Tour Directors as necessary to confirm tour departures and look for opportunities to expand.
We hope we will be able to revert to standard practice in the near future.
I appreciate your continued support and consistent quality work. Thanks for your understanding in these unusual times.
