Something Fishy. When I was a young lad, I learned to fish with a bamboo pole and a worm for bait, under a 100 year old bridge, in beautiful Douglas Park on the west side of Chicago. One day, many many later, now a grownup docent, I arrived at the Michigan Avenue dock to do a River Cruise. The “Friends of The River” were holding a Fishing Derby. They were supplying rods and bait to promote fishing in the Chicago River. I leaped at the chance to renew my old skills. In the left photo, on my very first try, I hooked a grocery cart. Then, after a real struggle, I landed a 2-inch Goby. I still hold the record for smallest fish ever caught in the Chicago River.
Can you identify these four species that are residents of the Chicago River?
