Keeping Busy! Part 6 – Celebrating Life!

This is a continuing feature for these unusual times. Remember, we’d love to hear what you’re are doing to cope and keep busy. When you have a story to share, send your thoughts to le**************@co*****.net“>Leslie Clark Lewis.

Jeremy Elkins, 2020 Docent Class Trainee

Congratulations to 2020 Docent Class candidate, Jeremy Elkins and his wife Hillary on the birth of their first child, Maya Lily, a few weeks ago.  May Maya Lily’s birth remind that there is still love, wonder and joy in the world today.  Mazel tov.

Linda Englund, Guest Services, Education Guide

“I’m feeling a little guilty,” said Linda Englund (seen here with Jen Masengarb in Copenhagen) who is hunkered down at her family retreat with 10 people – children and grandchildren included! “We have it good,” she said, “We’re all together and able to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and hear the birds around us.”  Like taking a breadth of fresh air, Linda is pausing to appreciate what is in the here and now.

John Perrecone, Education Guide

Celebrating different kind of new beginning is John Perrecone whose son got married last weekend.  “We had a small roof-top wedding in Roscoe Village … all done with masks and social distancing,” said John. “It was hectic putting up tents in the rain and wind! But love prevailed and it was a perfect day!”  When not helping with the wedding plans, John has been busy renovating his house and looking forward to spending more time outdoors gardening and enjoying the bike paths near his home.

Amy Zimmerman, Docent Class 2019, Education Guide

In what appears to be becoming a ritual practice for many of us, Amy Zimmerman is also cleaning and organizing her spaces.  In addition, she’s cooking more, reading, binge-watching TV (Ozark and Homeland) and enjoying long walks in the forest preserve near her home.  Nevertheless, Amy is sometimes a little stir-crazy, wishing she could be out practicing and certifying for her new tours: Hotel Boom and Fulton-Randolph Market.  Most importantly, Amy is keeping a watchful eye over her two kids serving on the frontlines as doctors – one at Rush, the other at Northwestern.

Caroline Duda, Manager of Volunteer Engagement

In what can be described as preservation of sanity, Caroline notes, “I have been keeping up a weekly routine of painting my nails on Sunday – helps me track the days. I post on Instagram and come up with puns for the colors. Here’s a collage of the first six weeks and colors: Quarantine Green, Orange You Glad I Stay Home, COVID Blue, Send More Wine, PPE Pink and Zoom Ya Later.” We’ll be looking for her next installment.
