The Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise Aboard Chicago’s First Lady is CAC’s premier tour. It is famous world-wide as one of the best ways to see the city’s skyline and learn about Chicago. The architectural river cruise was rated the #1 experience in the U.S. in TripAdvisor’s 2019 Travelers’ Choice awards, and CAC’s tour consistently gets top ratings from its guests.
Learning and giving the cruise is a major commitment of time, including initial training, required annual updates, and leading at least 10 cruises each season. Cruises start daily as early as 9:00 a.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. during the peak summer season. In 2020, we will be adding a new, high-capacity boat to the fleet. There will be over 1600 departures during the 2020 season.
Initial River Cruise training will be offered in 2020 to all eligible Docents, including those from the class of 2019. Training includes 5 all-day Saturday sessions from mid-March through mid-May, extensive study, onboard observation, and on-your-own practice.
If you would like to learn more about the challenge and satisfaction of being a CAC River Docent, please attend one of the upcoming River Cruise information sessions at CAC on Monday October 14, 2:00-3:30pm; or Monday October 21, 5:30-7:00pm.
Please RSVP by Friday October 4 to Michele Kuhn (mk***@ar**********.org) if you would like to attend, and indicate which session you will join.
