CAC EXHIBITION UPDATES
A handful of exhibition tweaks were installed recently.
Chicago City Model: A handful of 3-D printed scale model tour boats were placed into the Chicago River.
The Evolving City: A temporary magnetic sign was installed to the left of the large map of Chicago. The sign helps anchor the blank blue space, and is meant to introduce an activation/audience prompt. We are still experimenting with placement and scale, but this is our first attempt to place signage using the magnetic wall system.
Garrick Theatre Fragment: Somewhat unexpectedly we decided to place on the Chicago Gallery floor a restored column from Chicago’s Garrick Theater (Adler and Sullivan). We are in the process of printing up a label for the artifact. In the meantime, here are a few words of explanation:
- Exterior column fragment
- Dankmar Adler and Louis Henry Sullivan,
- Garrick Theater, Chicago, constructed 1891-92 (demolished 1961), terracotta
- Artifact was donated to CAC by Jack MacDonald, docent class of 1991
Innovation Wall Video Monitor: As part of our sponsorship agreement with Underwriters Lab, we have installed a video touch screen along the Innovation Wall in the Building Tall exhibition. The monitor currently hosts a short video (no audio) produced with the UL team highlighting their many connections to tall building safety and Chicago Architecture history. (In time, we will seek to add more video content on other Innovation topics, at which point the touch screen functions will be enabled to help visitors choose from a menu of content options.)
Outside the CAC: A sculpture has been installed on the plaza just east of CAC.
Stayed tuned for more information about the sculpture and artist but general details listed below.
