The Crystal Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, the Chicago Architecture Center’s neighbor to the east, was the setting for Docent Appreciation Night 2019. On Friday, May 10, docents and guests met, mingled, dined in style, and honored docents for their contributions during the past year. The theme, Mies and You and a New ‘Hood Too, highlighted our move to 111 East Wacker and the new Chicago Architecture Center.
The awards were the event’s stand-out attraction. The honorees were:
Outstanding Docent Achievement: Susan Pappas
Docent Service: Delta Greene, Kathleen Hanley, Joan Johns, Bill Lipsman, and Liz Walls
Neighborhood Tour Director: Lynn Hensel, for the Fulton Market tour
One Team: Chris Montanari, for outstanding work in helping staff accomplish goals and exemplifying CAF’s core values
Myra N. Gary Award for Excellence in Tour Development: Mike McMains, for the redevelopment of Must-See Chicago
Above and Beyond – Just in Time (answering help wanted requests): Carol Garner, Siobhan Hartsell, and Gloria Hinrichs-Nelson
Above and Beyond – Tops in Tours (300 plus tour hours): Tom Kinsella, Cindy Schneider, and Ellen Shubart
Also recognized were Milestone Docents (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years!), and Emeritus Docents.
And, of course, the raffle was a big hit, with prizes provided by businesses in our new neighborhood.
The DAN 2018 committee included: co-chairs Monica Kline and Barbara Breakstone; and members Jill Carlson, Erin Carlisle, Kathleen Carpenter. Emily Clott, Caroline Duda, Pam Lowenstein, Susan Pappas, Constance Rajala, Ellen Shubart, and Lorie Westerman.
It was a night to remember!
