Do you have an idea for a new tour? The Tour Roster task force and Tour Committee are calling for proposals for new tours to be launched in 2020. New tours keep CAC up-to-date to showcase the latest and greatest in Chicago architecture as well as hidden gems in neighborhoods. Each year the Tour Roster Task Force reviews current tours and identifies opportunities for new tours. The task force reviews proposals for new tours only once a year. Now is your chance to get a new tour on the roster for 2020.
Submit a Proposal
If you have been thinking about a theme that needs to be explored, a group of buildings crying for attention, or a neighborhood that offers possibilities, submit a proposal. CLICK HERE for the proposal form. Send proposals to Tom Carmichael – ca***********@gm***.com.
Deadline
Proposals are due May 31,2019.
Proposals most likely to succeed
- Include new and noteworthy projects.
- Contain experiential elements – something more than listening to docents talk.
- Avoid, as much as possible, structures that are already on other tours. CLICK HERE to see a list of buildings on other tours.
- If in the downtown area, take advantage of the location of the Center.
- Offer “behind the scenes” locations or places not typically visited by the public.
- Highlight special events like anniversaries. 2020 will be the 100th anniversary of the DuSable/Michigan Ave. Bridge and the 50th anniversary of CAC’s home, 111 E. Wacker Dr.
- Partner with other organizations to increase interest and attendance.
One-time Bus Tours
Each year CAC offers a package of bus tours – a different tour each month for nine to ten months. This year we are looking for three new one-time tours. Criteria for these tours include:
- Ideally three hours in length, no longer than four hours.
- One or more stops to visit interiors for an experiential element. These locations should be able to accommodate two to three waves of 40+ visitors each.
- If possible, coordination with the Programming Department to offer lectures and exhibits related to the tour.
Hot topics
In particular we are looking for proposals for tours based on these ideas.
- Obama’s Chicago – a once or twice a month bus tour to showcase locations and buildings associated with Barack and Michelle Obama.
- Sustainable architecture and urban planning – a walking or bus tour to highlight “green” buildings particularly in planned developments.
- Park West neighborhood – walking tour of the architecture immediately along Lincoln Park.
