New Gallery Activation
These activations are in the Chicago Gallery and include three new ways to engage guests, particularly in relation to the Mapping Chicago wall and the Seeing Neighborhoods and At Home exhibits.
What Changes Will I See?
As you enter the gallery, you will notice that we’ve added a few things to the Mapping Chicago wall map:
- Boundaries outlining the five Seeing Neighborhoods communities (Pullman, Pilsen, West Loop, Bronzeville, and Humboldt Park), marked with labels
- Callouts to the five At Home housing types (worker’s cottage, two-flat, bungalow, courtyard apartments and high rise) and where in the city you can find examples of these structures
- A table chart on the blank wall to the left of the map with two columns: What makes a “good neighborhood”? and What challenges do neighborhoods face? Near that will be a table set up with sticky notes, pencils, and small magnets.
- Under the map key, you’ll see a number of colored magnetic “push pin” markers, with instructions detailing how we want guests to use them.
What Do You Need Me to Do?
Please read the this document detailing how these activations will work, and how we would like exhibit hosts to encourage guests to participate and explore the gallery in greater depth. This is on The Bridge under Files and Documents in the Exhibit Host folder and there’s a posted copy in the volunteer library.
What’s the Reason for All This?
Now that the CAC is open, we’re testing out some new ways to engage audiences, promote hands-on participation, and help make connections across the exhibits.
How Long Will These Activities Run?
These activations will run through mid-March, at which point we will install and test another similar map wall/neighborhoods exhibit activation. More on that later.
