Due to FCC regulations, we are no longer able to use our current GTS devices. Our GTS provider, Antenna International, ran into production issues with the devices we were supposed to get. We will use temporary GTS devices from starting on February 12. The transition to our permanent devices will hopefully happen by the end of 2019, but they’ve told us to expect to use these temporary devices for at least 6 months. Operations and box office staff will be available to help get you and your guests set up prior to each tour. Please arrive for your tour/shift just a few minutes than normal to get acquainted. Also, for docents who use their own personal headset, be prepared that it might not be compatible with these temporary GTS devices. Please test before going out on your tour. Devices/headphones will be in their normal spot but we appreciate your patience as we are still organizing everything.
GTS/Listening Device Policy
GTS/listening devices are required for all tours that leave from the Chicago Architecture Center (CAC). Guests expect that they will be able to hear their docent on streets that are often noisy. Our tours are promoted as offering GTS. Their cost is included in the price of the tour. Listening devices create a guest-centered experience and set CAC apart from competitors. Since guests who have hearing problems are typically reluctant to say so, devices are required even for small groups. The only exception to the policy is when a docent goes out with only a single guest.
Since devices must be re-charged between tours, they should be returned as soon as possible, ideally within 15 minutes of the conclusion of a tour. To make carry devices back to the Center easier for docents, light-weight bags are available at the kiosk for this purpose. Please remember to ask for one when giving tours that do not end at the Center.
