The eighth-annual Open House Chicago will be October 13-14, 2018. Last year, over 91,000 visitors attended OHC, and many were new to CAC. This is CAC’s busiest weekend of the year and we NEED MORE DOCENT INTERPRETERS to make sure all visitors have a great experience!
More buildings have been added and more to come! You can sign up online here
Two ways to help on Oct 13 -14:
If you are a Docent:
- Conduct a Regularly Scheduled Tour
Please sign up for regularly scheduled CAF Tours! Every year the tour department struggles to find docents for tours during this weekend. When October tours become available (in August), consider scheduling yourself during this weekend. - Be a Docent Interpreter
Docent Interpretersare assigned to a shift at a busy downtown site during OHC to provide information on our favorite buildings and act as ambassadors of CAF. Potential locations include (but are not limited to) the Marquette Building, The Rookery, Chicago Board of Trade Building, Railway Exchange, 300 East Randolph and more – all buildings expected to receive thousands of visitors during OHC. Please review the position description, contact Pam Loewenstein (pl***********@gm***.com) or Alison Schlickman (as*********@gm***.com) with questions, or you can sign up online here.
If you are a VEV, or have friends or family who want to get involved:
- Be a Site Captain or District Coordinator
Site Captains and District Coordinators are the experienced, “supervising” volunteers in neighborhoods and at certain busy sites. They help coordinate Volunteer Greeters and make sure everything is running smoothly. These positions require one full day shift (approximately 8:30am-5:30pm) with a lot of walking around. If you feel comfortable being out in the field, interacting with OHC Site Hosts and volunteers, and acting as an honorary CAF Staff Member for the weekend, these might be good options for you. To learn more about being a Site Captain or District Coordinator contact Hallie Rosen.
- Sign up to be a Volunteer Greeter
It takes over 2,000 Volunteer Greeters to staff the check-in tables, greet visitors and manage lines at all 250 sites. Volunteer Greeters work a 4-hour shift, and receive great benefits (including service credit for VEVs). You can find out more about being a Volunteer Greeter and sign up at openhousechicago.org/volunteer.
