Squish.
Splat.
Gurgle.
These words are not normally associated with our tours, but the month of May, masquerading as April, certainly provided more than the usual challenges. A heartfelt Thank You to all of you who braved the chill of April and the downpours of May to keep delivering, time after time, on the reputation of our tours both walking and motorized.
With only about 70 days to go until the opening of the new Center, the pace of planning is escalating. Most important to all of us, plans will come together for a docent and volunteer “inspection and orientation” of our new home before we open. Rest assured that there will be time and opportunity to inspect our new digs and get comfortable with new routines and protocols before we launch. Watch this space and Ellen Shubart’s updates for move news.
And speaking of Ellen, did you know she has just written a book? What’s Up with Chicago? The Quirks, Personality, and Charm of the Windy City. Learn why Chicagoans don’t put ketchup on their hot dogs, why a Chicago snowstorm changed a mayoral election and dozens of other facts, sites, and things that make Chicago, Chicago. From the 1893 World’s Fair and its Ferris Wheel to the river, lake, and architecture—this book has it all. CAF Trustee, veteran docent, and now author, Ellen discussed her book at a recent CAF Daytime talk.
Finally, as we start a holiday weekend, good luck to everyone who will be out there certifying for the newly re-crafted core tours, and congratulations to all of you who have already done so.
Keep Calm and Carry On Giving Tours,
Constance
