Chuck McLaughlin, Class of 2008
Chuck was one of the brightest lights in the docent corps. Always pleasant, always full of fun and gentle teasing. He was a history buff and could dredge up fascinating facts and lore on many topics, particularly those relating to the Civil War and to the South. His recounting of a River Cruise when he learned that architect Lucien LaGrange would be aboard showed his quick thinking, his naturally gracious manner, and some guts by turning the microphone over to Mr. LaGrange at Montgomery Ward Park to analyze his two buildings there. You will be greatly missed, Chuck.

I will miss you my dear friend
There will be some great tours of heaven…will miss you.
He was a gracious and generous colleague, gone way too soon.
Watching this video again made me feel so lucky to have known Chuck and to call him my friend. What a lovely man – generous, smart, dedicated, and humorous – and a very good docent. I will miss you too, Chuck.
Chuck was the first classmate I met when we started in 2008 (Saturdays). He was a prince of a man and I think we are all better off having known him. Rest In Peace, dear Chuck.
Chuck was a gentle, kind man with a real sense of fun and clever wit. It is bittersweet to see him in this video. What a great loss for the CAF community! Rest in peace, dear Chuck.
Chuck, may you rest in peace.
I always felt better after talking with Chuck. I will greatly miss him. May he rest in peace. Tom
Quite a character, so much fun. A very special person indeed. Unforgettable.
Watching this video really made me smile even though I’m still in shock. But that was Chuck – he always made your day better with his great upbeat attitude and most friendly persona. I’ll miss him dearly. What a wonderful guy. Rest in peace my friend.
I feel sure that Chuck will pick beautiful, sunny days to ride along with us on our River Tours. Watch the back row and keep one seat empty. He’ll be there!! Bon Voyage our Friend.
I will greatly miss my fellow classmate and buddy, Chuck. His interests were wide-ranging, and his knowledge was extensive — from his love of the former Singer building in New York City to the details of how ships refuel at sea. But his greatest talent was in the way he made one feel better after having had a conversation with him. We will surely miss that twinkle in the McLaughlin eye and that with.
We had a great Southside connection we enjoyed talking about. He was sweet, kind, always left me feeling better after seeing him. I took his Beverly tours, his boat tour and last October his Gold Coast: Astor tour. All were so fun and interesting. We will miss you so much!
As others have stated and I agree completely. You always felt better while and after talking to Chuck. I must relate one story. After discussing with him about our favorite childhood family cars, A few weeks later he had obtained a beautiful picture of my favorite one. The picture was the exact color, model, and all of the car. Chuck mounted it and told me that there was something for me at the docent library. I was blown away when I saw it. I will always keep that picture and besides reminding me of family times, it will remind me of Chuck’s kindness.
