As the winter season approaches, it’s important to stay informed about how extreme cold affects tours. Here’s a summary of our Winter Weather Policy:

- Tour Cancellations Due to Cold Weather:
- If, during tour hours (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), the wind chill (“feels like” temperature) is forecast to be minus 10°F or colder, certain tours will be cancelled.
- This policy applies to outdoor walking tours and elevated tours.
- Bus tours, building tours, and Pedway tours will proceed as scheduled.
- Decision Process for Tour Cancellations:
- Timing: Staff will decide whether to cancel tours by 5:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled tours.
- Forecast Reference:
- Staff will consult hourly forecast data from weather.com for the next day’s tour hours (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
- If the forecast wind chill is minus 10°F or colder at any time during tour hours, all walking/elevated tours for that day will be cancelled.
- Notification:
- Staff will notify all affected volunteers and Guests via email, The Bridge, and the CAC website as soon as possible.
- Volunteers will receive credit for any cancelled tour or shift.
- Snow Conditions Policy:
- CAC will not cancel tours due to snow, unless the City is shut down.
- Volunteers commuting long distances are encouraged to maintain a “snow list” of colleagues who could substitute for their tour in case travel difficulties arise.
